Easter Countdown Family Activity: Jesus Promised to Give us the Holy Spirit

4 Days before Easter

Passage: John 14:16-17a, 15:26-27

Verse: Ephesians 1:13-14

Theme: Jesus Promised to Give us the Holy Spirit

Teaching:

Jesus knew that his time on earth was getting shorter. It was almost time for him to do what he had come to earth for. He was going to die on the cross for our sins. After that, he would rise again, but he wouldn’t stay on earth forever. He knew he would soon be going back to the Father to watch us and care for us from Heaven.

Jesus wanted us to know that we would never be alone. Even though he was going to be in Heaven, he was sending the Holy Spirit to be here on earth with us. The Bible calls the Holy Spirit an advocate. Do you know what that means? An advocate is someone who works on our behalf. He’s our teammate! The Holy Spirit is always with us. Once we trust Jesus as our Savior, the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside us. He helps us understand God’s Word- the Bible. He helps us know what God wants us to do, and he helps us pray and talk to God the Father.

The Bible says that the Holy Spirit rests on us like a seal or a special mark that only God can see. When he looks at us, he sees that we belong to him!

(Optional) Today we’re going to have some fun putting on temporary tattoos. These tattoos are marks we can put on our body to remind us that the Holy Spirit rests on us like a mark, too! The Holy Spirit lives inside us!
